It’s matchday, Armada fans. The team kicks off at 4pm against the Charleston Battery. It’s going to be a beautiful day for soccer, with the forecast saying it will be 69 degrees and sunny at kick off. The match won’t be televised today. It all goes down at Community First Park, so be there!
So here we go. Like every other preview, here are three things I’m watching for today, along with a new bold prediction for the match.
Cole Pepper said on the Armada radio show on Friday that Alhassane Keita is finally returning from his injury. Hopefully it was a sprain or something like that rather than a muscle injury. Will his minutes be limited today or could he go a full 90 if he were asked to? As we go into the season, will this be a lingering injury?
This will be our only chance in the preseason to see our top forwards Keita, Marcos Flores, Pascal Millien, and Jemal Johnson on the field at the same time. And they should all be on the field together. I don’t think you can keep anybody in that group off of the field. The team has been in a 4-3-3 in each match so far, so who moves where? Does Marcos Flores move deeper into the midfield? Today’s lineup will undoubtedly be what we’ll be watching regularly during the season, so we finally get a chance to see the team at full power.
The Battery beat the Armada 1-0 last month. It was a match that saw the Armada put a ton of pressure on the Battery goal but ultimately fail to finish. With Keita back, will we see a more consistent attack and better possession in the forward third of the field? Will the team come out firing, hoping to prove that the Battery win was just a fluke? We should score a couple of goals and hopefully keep a clean sheet as well.
Today is the day. Tommy Krizanovic will score his first goal for the team. He had several chances that just missed in the match against the Strikers and was dangerous in the first match against the Battery, too.
Look for a Goalzanovic sighting today.
