He broke a nearly 300 minute team goal-scoring drought last night, and the Armada have announced today that Akeil Barrett has signed a professional contract with the club. Whether the two are linked is doubtful as Barrett has been on trial with the club for the last several weeks.
Akeil is a Jamaican international who starred for his high school there and went on to play at Tulsa University. He was drafted by Orlando City SC in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft but was stuck down the depth chart and was waived to clear an international slot on the roster.
All reports indicate that Barrett impressed in OCSC camp so this seems to be quite a steal for the Armada. He did score to break the team’s goal drought (albeit against NCAA competition) so maybe he’ll be an answer to the issues that have plagued the attack so far.
The main answer, however, is still getting Alhassane Keita and Marcos Flores playing well and playing on the same page.
