Jacksonville Armada vs Atlanta Silverbacks Game Report

By Christian Cordoba

The Armada earned their first road points in club history on Saturday, as they left Silverbacks Park with a 1-1 draw. Going into the game, the Armada were confident on winning after Atlanta’s away defeat at Minnesota United.

Right into the game, Atlanta were pressuring the defense on the first few seconds which lead to a goal. The Silverbacks scored half a minute into the match when a pass broke through the Armada defense and met the foot of Hans Denissen, who beat Gallardo for the opening goal. Atlanta caught the defense for the Armada sleeping, but the Armada pressed forward and found the equalizer in the 20th minute. Marcos Flores sent a delicious through-ball to Alhassane Keita which he (as always) finished.

The defense for the Armada, as usual, was outstanding with not letting them through on goal (Other than in the first minute), but with every game in hand, Fabricio Ortiz always manages to pick up a yellow, so that means he will not play the next match against Minnesota United FC. Apart from that yellow, Lucas Trejo also picked one up, and the first half finished soon after.

After half time, the goalkeeper for Atlanta was just denying everything from our forwards. He was the only reason that the Armada were not on top. Miguel was huge for us too, making saves left and right.

The game started to slow down towards the end, and the referee blew the full time whistle with the score remaining 1-1. With this result, the Armada drop to 3rd in the league with 10 points, and the Silverbacks sit in 7th with 8 points. The Rowdies took over the 2nd place position with a win against Ft. Lauderdale. The Rowdies win also means that the Coastal Cup got a little tougher for the Armada, but they still control their fate with regards to the Spring Championship.

The Armada used up all three subs this game. Guam international Shawn Nicklaw came on for Lucas Rodriguez in the 61st minute, Akeil Barrett subbed in for Jemal Johnson in the 79th minute, and the final sub was Nurdin Hrustic for Pascal Millien in the 83rd.

Man of the Match would have to be Marcos Flores, who earned his 2nd assist of the season.
