The Armada raid on Louisville City FC looks like it will continue.
Rumors started spreading today that the club is set to announce the acquisition of 2015 USL MVP and leading scorer, Matthew Fondy. The announcement, if the rumors are true, will arrive a few weeks after the club announced another arrival from Louisville City, Bryan Burke.
Unlike Burke, who was a free agent, Fondy is currently under contract with Louisville City, so the Armada will owe some compensation to Louisville, if they do acquire him. LCFC seems to be realistic about players and their desire to move up the pyramid, so that might keep a potential transfer fee down. It might just be a matter of buying his contract out, in the end.
In this article, from Louisville’s Courier-Journal, LCFC manager James O’Connor states that Fondy has generated interest from several MLS clubs, also adding that NASL clubs have called. It would be a bit of a coup if the Armada were to snap him up, although the playing time available to him in Jacksonville might make it a much more attractive option.
Fondy was the 2015 USL MVP and Golden Boot winner. He was tied – on 22 goals – with Sebastian Giovinco and Kei Kamara for the most goals in all US Professional Leagues. He’s a legitimate finisher; big and tough to the ball. If he joins the fleet, he would be a perfect target man for Pascal Millien and Jemal Johnson.

We have reached out to Matt and the Armada, and will update this post with any response.
